SURGE POLONIA!
\nEndless fields framed by a misty plain,
\nThe oval spine of the bridge\u2019s span couples the horizon,
\nA river flying freely cuts the boundary \u2014
\nOblivious that its liberty will be a fault,
\nThat taming it will be desired, sentries established,
\n\u201cWacht am Rhein\u201d shall scream beguiled falsehoods,
\nMasters of tainted battles, always within foreign thresholds,
\nThey shall break the arms of the cross, wounding the Lord \u2014
\nUntil the judges gather and stand them before court,
\nAnd have them seek grace on the roads of penance.
\nArnhem connects both geography and history,
\nIts expression is heavy with consequence and a road sign,
\nIts expansive fields provide a backdrop to the landscape,
\nOf cemeteries that are so nobly decorated.
\nIn Holland, the guard is somewhat different,
\nWhere the young lay flowers on the graves each year,
\nWhere they maintain the memory of that jump,
\nWhich brought freedom to Europe, and that stubborn call:
\nSURGE POLONIA!
\nThose children, their youth, those heartfelt blossoms,
\nThis is a living heritage, incomprehensible wealth:
\nChildren bright in simplicity, not knights in their glory,
