From the tree of hope<\/strong><\/p>\n

That fall in Arnhem
\nmore than the falling leaves
\nreached the ground \u2026.
\nThousands of beings unaware
\ndisappeared for good
\nAnd above the Dutch sky
\nhope did not flare up<\/p>\n

They did not hear
\nDid he speak too quietly?
\nThey did not see
\nDid ambition obscured the truth?
\nBridges a step away from freedom
\nTurned uncrossable<\/p>\n

Market Garden in Driel
\nSounded different
\nWelcoming band no longer played
\nCrying drowned out dreams<\/p>\n

The Polish Independent Parachute Brigade
\nwas gone
\nwith no right to say the last word
\nwith no right to say good bye<\/p>\n

After the Rhine ran red with blood
\nThey opened the last chute
\nThere was nowhere to land<\/p>\n

This fall in Arnhem
\nmay more than the falling leaves
\nreach the ground \u2026
\nMay our commemoration assign a meaning
\nto lost lives<\/p>\n

Let us sweep the leaves in Driel
\nMay nothing obscure the ground
\nwhich will forever
\nremember our heroes<\/p>\n
